Im not cynical, but I'm not a hopeless romantic. I can appreciate Valentine's Day to a certain extent. I've celebrated it both while dating someone and while single, and I can't say I'm partial to either scenario.
I've been discussing "girl love" a lot with my two roommates ever since we began watching the HBO show Girls (sidenote: anyone that watches it too, how much do you freaking love it?!). The characters on that show are so close and display such an awesome, unconditional love for each other no matter what. Their relationships are all so different and throughout all their trials and tribulations (boyfriends, jobs, drugs, and even a failed marriage), they support each other and are always there to give advice, a hug, or a glass of wine [if necessary].
Love for your family and love for your significant other is equally as special, don't get me wrong. However, there's just something about having a close relationship with your girlfriends that gives you so much comfort in any time of need.
That's why this Valentine's Day, you should celebrate your girls. Celebrate all you've been through and all you've done for each other. Every heartbreak you've cried together over, every sleepover you've had (yeah, those still happen in your 20's), and every moment you've thought "what would I do without them?" I am so thankful for all my girlfriends, especially my roommates, and even though this holiday is traditionally used to spotlight whatever romantic relationship you may have in your life, take a little time to appreciate a love that, in my opinion, is unlike any other.
Here are some cute ideas for little gifts you can get your girlfriends this Valentine's Day. Anything from a nice pair of earrings (some of these are a little pricey) to something simple like her favorite kind of ice cream or a funny card - just let your girls know how much you appreciate them.
1. Cute, festive jewelry
Who needs to get jewelry from boys? What do they know? You can trust your girlfriends to pick out something that you'll actually love!
2. A Precious Print for their room
Decorating is tough when you're on a budget - I would know. But I love browsing through prints on Etsy and one of my favorite shops, Amanda Catherine Designs, has this adorable Valentine's Day-esque print. (And I would definitely recommend looking through some of her other prints as well!)
3. Nail Polish
What girl doesn't love a fresh new bottle of nail polish? My personal favorite, Essie, has about a million different shades of pink and red - the perfect easy gift. Plus, 2 of the colors featured above support Breast Cancer Awareness! Talk about loving your girls...
4. Cloth Hair ties
I just recently discovered the wonder that is cloth hair ties, and I don't think I can ever go back to traditional ones. Mine are from Bowties Bowtique - they are awesome and so affordable! Not to mention they come in almost every color under the sun. I also love the Valentine's colored ones above.
Their favorite sweet treat
Especially for those girls who take it hard being alone on Valentine's Day, something sweet is always the perfect little present. Try your friend's favorite pint of ice cream, or maybe some cute Valentine's candy. After all, this is one of the only day when it's socially acceptable to have a major sweet tooth.
Anything coffee-related
Coffee is its own food group in our apartment. Any time I need to wake up, focus, or just chat with my friends, a cup of coffee is always involved. So whether it's that cute Lilly Pulitzer mug or a Starbucks gift card, treat your girls to a little pick-me-up.
Have any big Valentine's Day plans?

These gifts are adorable! Perfect for girlfriends anytime of the year!
